Eligibility Criteria for GATE 2027
1. Educational Qualification
- Candidates currently enrolled in the 3rd year or higher of any undergraduate degree program in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, or Humanities are eligible to appear.
- Graduates who have completed any government-approved degree program (B.E., B.Tech, B.Arch, B.Sc, B.Com, B.A., M.Sc, M.A., MCA, etc.) from a recognized university or institute are also eligible.
- There is no minimum pass percentage barrier prescribed to apply for GATE 2027.
2. Age Limit
- There is no upper or lower age limit to register and appear for the GATE examination.
3. Nationality
- Indian citizens as well as candidates from international countries are eligible to register. For Indian nationals, registration verification via DigiLocker is mandatory.

Pattern of Question Paper
- Question Formats: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), Multiple Select Questions (MSQ), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions.
- Marking Scheme: Questions carry 1 mark or 2 marks.
- MCQs: 1/3 mark deducted for wrong 1-mark questions; 2/3 mark deducted for wrong 2-mark questions.
- MSQs & NATs: No negative marking for incorrect responses.
- Sections: General Aptitude (GA) section (15 Marks) is common to all papers, while candidate's selected Subject Paper accounts for 85 Marks.
Step-by-Step Online Application Procedure
- DigiLocker Setup: Ensure your DigiLocker profile is verified with your Aadhaar number.
- Visit Portal: Navigate to the official GATE 2027 portal at gate2027.iitm.ac.in.
- Register: Click on Apply Online to enter your primary details (Name, Email ID, Mobile Number) and create a password.
- Fill Details: Fill in personal details, communication address, qualifying degree status, college name, and select your choice of test paper(s) and exam cities.
- Upload Documents: Upload high-quality scanned photograph, signature, and category/PwD certificate (if applicable).
- Fee Payment: Make the online application fee payment and print the acknowledgment slip with your Enrollment ID.

What is the last date to apply for GATE 2027 without late fees?
The closing date for online submission of GATE 2027 applications without late fees is 5th October 2026. Applications with an additional late fee will be accepted until 12th October 2026.
When will the GATE 2027 examination be conducted?
The examination will be held in computer-based mode on February 6th, 7th, 13th, 14th, 20th, and 21st, 2027 in two daily shifts.
Is there an upper age limit to appear for GATE 2027?
